British Empire: Consisted of Great Britain and her Colonies, such as India, Canada and Australia. Was particularly powerful during the late 19th century whilst ruled by Queen Victoria (1837-1901)
Slavery: The international trading of humans for manual labour and forced work. Many slaves were transported from their homes in colonies such as Africa to Britain and the United States during the 18th and 19th centuries
Tribe: A type of group of people who live and work with the same traditions and values- a community
Imperial Court: A type of monarchy ruled over by an emperor or empress- an empire. China has the oldest existing Imperial Court in the world
Dreadlocks: A type of hairstyle often worn by Rastafarians and other eligious groups as a sign of the dismissal of vanity and material possessions
Oil paintings: A type of painting rendered using paints made from oil and pigment
Sculpture: A type of art made by carving or working in relief to present a three-dimensional form
Mehndi: a type of henna tattoo applied using a piping cone/bag for traditional cermonies in various Asian cultures
Pakistan: Asian country situated next to India. Pakistan was founded in 1947.
India: Asian country situated next to Pakistan above the Indian Ocean. Formerly part of the British Empire
Lignum Vitae: A type of hard wood found in topsoil.
Sari: A long cloth wrapped around the waist and passed over the shoulder and head. Traditionally worn with a small bolero type jacket.
Kirpan: The blade/sword that Sikhs carry as testament to their religious faith
Queen Victoria: Monarch of the British Empire, born 1819, ruled from 1837-1901. One of the most popular British monarchs of all time
China: One of the largest countries in the world, situated in the Far East, above Australia and Indonesia
